My opinion on the issue:
I wouldn't buy a dog with a health problem because he is cheaper. You will likely end up spending more money in the long run caring for the dog. I do, however, have a lot of respect for people who have the money to pay huge vet bills for luxating patella (common in yorkies) and so on because they want to. I wouldn't be able to afford to do it right now.
Do you know how many litters the 8 year old has had?
Did you check out petfinder? There are a ton of Yorkies on there for free or a nominal fee of around $75 bucks or so. If you want to give me your city, I can find you one!
