The first test I do is a urine bile acid test at betwen 10-12 weeks. If that comes back okay, then we don't re-test. If it is questionable, then I retest with a blood serum bile acid test at least a month later. Our fasting is for 10 hours, and I have never had one get hypoglycemic. They are allowed to have water. They are into the vet the minute they wake up in the morning, and are fed right after their blood draw. I am right outside of Knoxville, TN and my veterinarian is good friends with Dr. Karen Tobias, and stays current on bile acid testing and any new breakthroughs in the disease or testing protocals. She and He agree that this is a good method of testing puppies. If you wait until 6 or 7 months to bile acid test puppies, they may already be suffering the effects of PSS or MVD. That is not a risk I am willing to take, or pass on to anyone else. All of my adults who are the parents of these puppies are also tested and clear.
