ahhh---we call it SCOOCH BUTT. If everything is working properly, the anal glands will be expressed naturally, as others have said here. Some dogs have a chronic problem and need assistance. Eddie's condition might resolve itself before you go to the vet. Make sure you keep him on dry food so his stools are hard. (This is probably more than you ever wanted to know about anal glands).
Edie does this periodically, but it always resolves by itself. I always check to see if she has any cling-ons which make her scooch also. I just give her a warm pressure wash.
Worst case scenario---abcessed anal glands. This happened once to Edie...it was a big red bump (you couldn't miss is) and it must have really hurt. She was licking it constantly. The vet lanced it and put her on antibiotics for 10 days. Thankfully, it never recurred. |
