A great suggestion! Ticks breathe through their skins since their heads are burried in their host. One method that I've always done in past years is to apply vasoline with a q-tip and swab the tick until the tick pulls it's head out.

Had a student at school this year who had a tick on his head and our school nurse (bless her heart) had never dealt with ticks on students and was getting sick at the thought...I had to come to the rescue! LOL!
