I called the breeder just now and she said he could get a upper respiratory infection from going to a different climate and the stress of the move, because he is so small, is this true? She said she would send me home with Amoxicillen as a precaution and to give it to him. I love SSHAW's Dennis, is he a silky coat and what is his adult weight? I just don't know if I should go with the female who is 2 1/2 lbs.at 12 weeks or the boy who is 2 1/3 lbs. at 12 weeks and 3 days. I wnat a small one but not so small that it has a lot of health issues. The boy is going to be a silky coat and the girl she said would be a fuller coat(I guess that means soft). |
Even though my 2 are brother and sister, Hobbs has more of a teddy bear face and Hootie has more of a baby doll face. I attached pics of both as puppies (8 weeks) so you can get an idea. Hobbs is in the first pics with the teddy bear face, and Hootie is the 2nd pic with the babydall face.
It is common for yorkie puppies to get a little "cold" when they are first brought to their new homes. Both of mine got a "cold" and had to be on Amoxicillen. Your breeder sounds like an EXCELLENT breeder if she is already warning you about this and giving you antibiotics. The reason they get a "cold" is bc their bodies have to get used to
your house and
your air conditioner and such. It is nothing to be alarmed about, but make sure you take good care of the puppy if it does get a "cold" bc you don't want it to turn into pneumonia. Just give it the antibiotics and it should be fine!
If they are brother and sister, then they should both have equal risk of developing health problems assuming they are both healthy now. There is not too much difference in their size now, so I would suggest going to visit them and getting a feel for their personality. You will know after you play with them which one you like based on their personalities.
The coat really depends on what you prefer. The silky coats will not get as full, but the full coats are often harder to manage if you don't take care of it. There is also this stuff called "Cowboy Magic" that works wonders on cottony coats. So if you want the one with the full coat, don't not get it just bc of the coat.
Good Luck! Let us know what you decide to do!
