I have traveled with my little poodle before and the best advice I can give you is to have bottled water with you and a small container your pup can drink out of and also a bit of dry food. When you have a layover if you can't get outdoors with him take him to the rest room in a large stall and offer him the pee pad and a drink and spend a few minutes with him, people might think you are weird but so what? Its important you reassure this little one.

I kept my dog out of the carrier until time to board the plane, he was content to sit with me and then when they called to board I placed him in his carrier.
Thus keeping his time in the carrier to a minimum.

It is also a good idea to have a pea pad in the bottom of the carrier. I didn't have a problem with any accidents but its a good idea just in case.

Hope this helps, I am sure other more well seasoned travelers will have advice for you too.

Have a safe trip and God Bless you and your little one.
