My yorkie Finn was kind of long too. I had his hair cut, and it really was a nice break at first, but after awhile I really regretted it. It really did make him look longer. Plus, I hated that people often mistaked him for a Schnauzer. If I were to do a short cut again, I would probably leave the legs long and full.
