Can anyone tell me what color is the blood if a pup vomits and/or in thier stool?

I took zoe to the vet thinking that I saw blood in his vomit (he vomited 6 times) It was brown acid and I thought I saw blood flakes. I took him to an emergency vet and he said that vomiting blood would look like coffee grains and blood in stool would be pitch black. Is this true?

Keep in mind that my pup just had knee surgery for a luxating patella on friday. He's on anitbiotics (amoxicillan(sp)) and rimadyl. I am not giving him any meds tonight and taking him off the rimadyl unless he shows that he is in pain.

Then...when I got home he went to the bathroom and to me the stool looked black. I will check on his morning stool sample to determine how black it is but I just wanted to know if what the vet said about the coloring of stool is true.
