Mom has been barking and crying at pups since the Vet.... Mom was barking and crying the whole time we were gone with the pups at the Vet. When we got home, we put the pups back in there spot, and let Princess inspect. She nudged them around ALOT, and lick them all over, then got up and left. She hears them cry and goes back with them, licks them and then starts barking. She is hiding behind the toilet, and in the linen closet and barking. If we lie her down for to let the pups nurse, she will stay there quietly as long as we are in there with her, but as soon as we get up, so does she, even if the pups are still nursing. Then she will get on our bed, and when she hears the pups cry, she starts barking, jumps off the bed, goes in there and barks more.
Has anyone gone through this before? I called the Vet and he said to just keep her nursing, and that she should get over this. This was all afternoon yesterday, and all night last night. She had done this the first day, and then stopped and got the hang of the Mommy thing. She would stay with them all the time, and never heard anything from her, until she needed to go outside, and then would lie right back down with them. We are putting the heating pad back in with the pups for when she is not with them.
Here are my thoughts...Should we move them to a different area of the house and see if that helps Princess stay with them, because she won't be all alone, she'll be in a room with us as well? Does she think with the stitches the pups are in pain, and crying in pain and doesn't know how to help them?
Is she mad that others have handled her pups, and she can smell it?
Also, how often and how long do the pups need to nurse now? They are all about 7 - 8 oz.
Thanks for everything!
