I keep the puppies in a spare bedroom in a large plastic container in a playpen. Mom just barks when she wants out. Most say they should be in a quiet secluded place until they are about 3 weeks, but I think this is more for the Mom than the pups so if Mom is happier being closer to you than I don't think it's a problem where you put them (if you don't have any other dogs). I would definitely keep them in a container of some type and not just on the floor though.

Has Mom settled back down? If not, I'm sure she will. You might just want to stay and pet her while she's nursing until she's not as stressed.
