As long as the dye is safe to use on dogs and the dogs doesn't mind I don't see a huge problem. It would be important to makes sure the dog is safe from allergies and overall anxiety from the process of being dyed. (Max would never take part in this he hates anything involved with bathing and grooming)
As in any case if the dog is unhappy or if the owner gets carried away... then we have a problem!
