They can draw blood and take a test (titer, I believe) to see how much vaccine they still have in there system. My yorkie, Kramer always had a hard time with his vaccinations so my vet would run the test every year to see if he really needed the shot or not. He usually ended up getting one about every 3rd year. The test cost about $50 but it was so worth it to me. You might see if your vet could do that next year.
