I took both of my dogs to the vet last week for regular check-up. They both got rabies vaccines, but ChaCha (my 3 1/2 lb chihuahua) had a terrible reaction. She didn't even walk for 2 days! We had to carry her out to potty or to the potty pad, she refused to eat or drink, and she cried loudly whenever she moved. After notifiying the vet, she was placed on pain medicine, but she's had this huge lump on her hip ever since the shot. So today we once again headed back to the vet and now she's on antibiotics and another pain/anti-inflammatory med. She's also running a fever. The vet said it was a reaction but she has an infection at the site. He said the lump could rupture and to look for fluid draining out of her hip.
Of course my husband and I are pretty upset and since they already receive each shot separately my husband wants to refuse the rabies vaccines from now until forever, except that she's 2 years old. The vet said we should just try a different brand of vaccine. Has anyone ever heard of this happening?
