Unhappy Not a cuddler...why?

I have a question. My baby hates to cuddle with me? Everytime I try to put him on the bed with me he can't stand it. If my husband and I are lying on the couch we want to cuddle with him too and the minute he comes up on the couch he goes to the complete opposite end of where we are. He just doesn't like to be cuddled, very independant. Is this normal or is it because my husband got him from a broker (he didn't know any better and by the time he told me where he got him I was already attached to my baby. He was a surprise 30th birthday present so it wasn't like I could have discussed with him that you should never buy from a pet store or a broker...unfortunately), maybe my poor baby didn't have much human contact and just can't get use to cuddling? Or could it be that it's just because he's a rumbuncious (sp?) pup? What can I do to help him cuddle more with me? I am such an affectionate person and I have the least affectionate baby. Any advice?
