I too have wondered about these microchips aswell because I have heard this same thing. Now they are doing tatooing also..
Anyway I see why gov would want this spay nueter law but it doesn't seem to be well thought out at all. If they want a law for this they should also make this a free service or a very minimal charge...so every one would do it,also I am not trying to play favorites but it seems to me that most of the dogs in the shelter are not small lap dogs..although there are more and more lately. Maybe they should have charged a fee for a waiver- not per yr like BabyBlessing said of $250!!! That is outrages! $250 per yr for 12-15yrs!!( life span of our dogs). Plus I find it somewhat ironic because the gov can implement these laws for animals but yet not for the countless homeless, unwanted or drug addicted babies born to welfare, crack addicted parents and many more ( this is another topic)?? I agree there needs to be some kind of law but they need to be way more specific and maybe allow 1 litter ( if you want to keep it for yourself? and pay a fee for this privelege or... or if you do have a litter all the pups could somehow be tracked to the original breeder and they would be ultimately responsible for the dog in any way shape or form if it were ever to be in a shelter? WHo knows these are all just thoughts and I am not sure what the answer would be on this but I know the law would need to be way more specific..and better thought out. Also I feel for you Babyblessing because if you have a tiny dog they often can die from this procedure....I have a friend who has 2 tiny little Yorkies one at 1.8 lbs and the other is like less than 3lbs...? I don't know what would be the best solution but this is going to be a hot topic for many many people. I assume many won't want to touch this thread because there are soo many things to consider. I totally am an animal lover and have believed in having and rescuing animals only from the shelter because there are so many unwanted great pets out there. My only fault is that I fell in love with the Yorkshire terrier.
