It also might have a lot to do with the quality of food you feed. A higher quality of food with less by products will produce less poop. Oscar has only pooped twice a day since he was a year old. And yes, I can tell time by when he poops...if he does not go at those times, something is wrong. But that is only my take on this...I guess every dog can be different.
