We always use a heavy duty, clear shower curtain ... trim or fold under if it's too large. We put the covering down and set the X-pen on top of it, letting about an inch stick out all the way around. We have never, ever had a problem with Toto bothering it. We also use a pad frame for her wee wee pads and she has never bothered them either. It works beautifully for us ... good luck!!
