I live 15 miles SW of New Orleans. We have mandatory evacuations every year since we are sandwiched in between Ms. River & Lake Pontchatrain. But last year was the 1st time we have ever left. Good thing we did! We were gone 9 days & then only my husband & I came back to get things straighten out. My family & friends had flooding so we had a house full. There were people sleeping in the bedrooms, offices, & living room. So, looking around, we were lucky. We didn't get flood water, only wind damage & rain.
We can only hope it will be 30 or so more years before we get another BIG ONE!
