I would check with the vet because of the liver shunt, but the range of benadryl dosage is .5 - 2 mg. per pound every 8 - 12 hours. So I would probably start at 1 mg per pound which would be about 1 tsp. of baby benadryl (double check I think it is 12.5 mg per 5 ml (1 tsp). twice a day. If he's that itchy, it wouldn't surprise me if your vet tells you to give him the max., a 25 mg. tablet twice a day. If it works (and it does for many) it would be much better than the prednisone. |
