Unhappy Bad disease: Lymphangiectasia

My 7 year old yorkie Artie was diagnosed in August 2004 with this colon disease. We tried prednisone and a hypoallergenic diet at the exclusion of all other foods as recommended by Arties vet and the pathologist. Although he was under weight he seemed to do ok with occasional flare ups of bloody diarrhea. Last week he developed vomiting and diarrhea and went downhill fast. Although he was at the vets getting fluids his protein decreased and we put him to sleep on Saturday. This was our third yorkie. The first had a shunt and died at age 2 ,the second lived until 15 and now this. Has anyoe else had this experience? My mom is devastated and doesn't want to get another yorkie for fear of this disease. I guess it runs in terrier line Please advise.
