For a female dog there is no reason at all to not have her spayed at 6 months is she is not going to bred. That article was one vet's opinion, and i personally found alot of it to conflict with and/or be just the opposite of what i've learned from vets i've worked with over the years. While it was interesting to read what he said i didn't agree with a good portion of it. THere are more health risks related to not having a dog fixed at 6 months then there are to having it fixed at 6 months, especially with females. With the first heat the chances of the dog getting breast cancer later in life goes up by 50%. the second heat brings it up another 20-25%.

I haven't seen conclusive evidence that dogs get "taller" when they are fixed younger then a year. In fact the dogs are usually smaller then unneutered dogs. Let's look at male dogs. Neutered males are generally smaller and more femine then unneutered males. Unneutered males get bigger and stockier and have a bigger/wider head and shoulders. With females i haven't seen as big of a size difference as there is in males.
