I found this information on a veterinary website [Ohio, I believe] ... Patrick has wanted to have Toto Microchipped since day one .... I was afraid that it might be painful! If it's no more painful than a shot ... guess we'll talk to "Doctor Lucy" and have her "chipped". Although ... chances of her ever getting lost is slim to none .... stolen? ... that too but I don't want to take any chances!

Microchip Implantation

We have hundreds of products designed to meet the unique needs of each of your pets. One of them, the Avid Chip, is described below. This painless technique will aid you in locating your pet should he or she become lost or stolen.

The AVID Chip, a painless means of providing positive identification of your pet should he or she ever become lost or stolen:

American Veterinary Identification Devices (AVID)

The AVID chip is a tiny computer chip about the size of a grain of rice which has an identification number programmed into it.

We inject the AVID Chip under the skin of the pet where it safely stays for life, providing a permanent, positive identification that cannot be lost, altered or removed, and does not migrate in the animalīs body. It will last for decades...well beyond the life span of your pet as the AVID chip will never wear out. The injection is not painful, and permanent identification is instantaneous.

The AVID Chip costs under $35.00. The fee is certainly less than the cost of trying to locate your lost or stolen pet, not to mention the anguish, worry and heartbreak of the loss of your pet-perhaps forever. The injection is not painful and permanent identification is instantaneous. Even if your pet is not a patient of ours, we can still arrange to have your pet microchipped.
