Hi Kim,
I'm a retired (recently) Health Official. Salmonella can be found on almost anything. That is why it's important to wash your hands. The pig ears may have had it. If you buy them from a reputable company, they will probably have been cooked and cured better than some cheap outfit. You may have to pay a little more for them, but you will save in the long run--in the way of Vet bills. Maggie hasn't had one bit of problem. I also have two heelers and they love them as well. I hope your babies are doing better. Just remember that Salmonella can be transmitted very easy by just skipping the ole handwashing. Also, if they are not housebroken, then where they had the poo accident (hopefully on tile), you can use an antibacterial spray or mop solution to kill any bacteria left on the floor. Nope I'm not a germ freak, just experienced in the field of bacteria.
