Heartworm meds are NOT the usual concept of vaccines. Puppies over 12 weeks of age can safely be given the meds like Ivermectin-products. The med does not prevent heartworms like, say distemper vaccine does. Heartworm meds kill any larvae that might have formed as a result of exposure to infectious skeeters in the past 30 days.. So, most of us should have started our babies on the meds already. But, of course, your vet is the authority on your individual baby.. |
