They must have the same coat texture because I have the EXACT problem! He looks great right after a bath and for a few hours but then his hair looks stringy. It always looks like he needs a bath even after he gets one. That's why I can't deal with it and the matting anymore. He's getting mats close to the skin but like you I bath him, spray him and they come out but I noticed since his hair is getting so long we're getting more mats.

And if this is happening now what's it going to be like in the summer! I think I'll get something similar to Bonnie. Like you said if anything you could always go shorter.
