Hi, I'm new to the forum - been lurking for a few days - and of course, finally have a question. My husband and I have a new Yorkie baby - Rowdy - I guess you could tell by my username. When do we start him on dry food??? We got him at 9 weeks and the lady we got him from gave us some of the dry food he was eating - she had been soaking it in water. He didn't seem too thrilled about it so we got him some canned food and mixed the soaked dry with the canned. He eats that pretty well. A week later my husband decided he would try him on the dry food without soaking it. Well, Rowdy absolutely loved it but he just gluped it down without chewing it - it's very small kibbles. Before my husband knew it, he had eaten quite a bit. The next morning he had one episode of diarrhea and wouldn't eat. We took him to the vet and he checked out just fine, no worms, no infection, probably overeating - and he was eating again by late afternoon with normal poop. Since then we have not tried him again on dry food and of course, we are very hesitant. I really would like to get him on the dry food, but I'm afraid he won't chew it and have trouble digesting it. Any suggestions??? |
