The difference in a yorkie and maltese personalities in my experenice is: my yorkie is very hyper type and the maltese is very laid back. You have to rember that the yorkie is a terrier it was bred for the purpose of exterminating vermin in the mines in Yorkshire England. The maltese has spaniels in it's ancestory. It was bred in Malta for the purpose of being a companion dog for royalty. My maltese can play hard with the best of them don't get me wrong. But for the most part she is content to lay on my lap while I throw the ball for the yorkie to run wildly through the house.
