The lady gave me her phone number through email and I called her. I guess there were so many things she couldn't list them all in an email. She worked there for only about 4 weeks. She said the morning when the manager hit the cocker spaniel in the face was the last straw. She said the dog was crying for a long time after that and she wouldn't have been surprised if his eye swelled up. She said that she put the keys on the counter and didn't return from lunch. She feels bad for not reporting it, but the manager told her that he would sue her if she opened her mouth because she has no proof. She also told me about another girl who used to work there and had problems with them and gave me her number. I'll be calling her tomorrow. She is in the same boat, she wants to do something, but they threatened to sue her. She said she is surprised the place hasn't been shut down, but it's probably because they threaten to sue everyone. She said that it is kind of frustrating because they seem so untouchable. I did see the owner's names come up on lots of lawyer's websites last night when I googled it.
I will definitely call all the places you guys suggested. About the medication: she said some people requested their dogs have water down ALL the time because of medications. They never did that because #1 they didn't want to pay for even the paper waterbowls for the cages and #2 they did not want the dogs to pee more. Even though they are locked in the cages all day to poop and pee where they sleep. They just lie to customers and tell them that they take them out. Then they even charge extra for "playtime" that isn't even given to the dogs! That is so low.
I do have another question. What is the difference between slander and freedom of speech? I feel like me speaking out about what is going on is THE RIGHT thing to do. I am trying to encourage these two girls to speak out. But they are afraid of getting sued for slander and defamation of character because they can't afford it. Is proof needed? Should I file a police report from what happened the other night to protect myself from being sued for telling my story? Should I encourage other people to do the same? The only thing lacking is proof. The lady wishes that she would have stuck around and video taped it, but she wanted to get away from it.
