QUOTE: Eventually, within months or a year, she will die I've been told, unless she has surgery where they insert a shunt in the brain. Does anyone know of this operation, how successful it may be or any other information available?

I can't believe a vet letting you leave his office without answering these questions for you. (Unless you were too stunned and upset to ask many questions - which is understandable.)

I can tell you that a shunt is the most common treatment for this problem.
I have seen this being done often with babies -

Please get back with your vet with a list of questions and get some answers.

Also - get on the Internet -- and please realize that is is a common problem for people too. And, the problem, treatment, and prognosis should be very similar.

Good luck - Carol Jean
