Gus (5 pounds) plays with a Maltese (9 pounds). They growl, bark, pin each other down. Occasionally Gus will yelp when it gets too rough but then he is right back in there. People always think they are fighting but they are just playing.
I would supervise them until your female is bigger and you are more confident they are only playing but I think if she was really getting hurt she would not be eager to keep joining in.
When they are getting too crazy, I would (and do) step in and break it up for a little while.
What does your male do when she cries out? Does he let up? |
