My parents bought my first car (700 bucks), and purchased one tank of gas a week. Wasn't too long before I had to buy my own gas too. I was responsible for my taxes and insurance. I was never ON my parent's policy. If I got in trouble....the car keys were what I had to hand over.

My MIL was guilty of the behavior you mentioned. She bailed my SIL....Lord too many times to count....over and over and over. She thought she was helping her....no, it didn't help her one iota. It made her dependent. MIL has been dead for three years...SIL is still asking for money from her siblings. I finally told her the other day....look, T, do what we do...go to work...that's how you get money. Giving (and it's not a loan cause she's never gonna pay ya back) her money has NOT helped her....she's forty and still thinks like a 13 year old. Come to think of it....my 13 year old makes better decisions than her aunt.

PS Fastest way to tick SIL off...is to tell her NO. Yep, that response always makes me WANT to help her....not She does not ask me for money any more 'cause it ain't gonna happen....

Sounds like my aunt! Its a long story to tell but youve explained it well for me
