| Glad he is doing better.
I did not go to the vet with the hypoglycemia episodes....but I am a peds nurse and have a high level of tolerance for stress (ha ha ha)...I really felt comfortable dealing with Lil Bit at home....I also lost a yorkie mix puppy 6 months earlier fighting hypoglycemia but later found her to be infested with tapeworms which actually killed her because she was only 9 oz and the med was too strong for her size.....(did not mean to add all the nasty details!!)
Toby will do fine...just be really careful with him. I did have a few worrysome moments getting Lil Bit to EAT ANYTHING.....thank goodness I was a new member here at YT and got tons of great advice.....My best recipe was grinding her puppy food very fine...(almost like a powder) and adding baby food chicken warmed a little....(the tiny 1st stage foods)...and she ate that the best. Well, until she finally got a bit picky, but that is another thread/subject.
I continued giving her the Nutrical for weeks and weeks.....Lil Bit was 3 months old and 1 pound when I got her....she was sick for almost 2 weeks and gained only a few ounces....the vet had me giving her 1 cc of Nutrical 3 x's a day. I also kept her water 1/2 and 1/2 with gatorade and a small spoon of Karo. If he does get to eating a bit better and you notice his poops staying a bit runny or loose try backing off the sugar or Nutrical a bit because they can tend to make their poops looser.
When I finally quit giving the Nutrical (except watching for symptoms) my happiest moment was the day I found a Lil Bit poop that was normal, dry, formed poop!!!!! I knew then she was going to do well.
The "warm place" idea came from my chihuahua, Apple.....she is nearly naked with no hair on her belly and She always seemed cold...I placed a heating pad inside a large fleece dog bed cover and zipped it in.....(I kept the cord hidden under the couch cushions).....turned it on low and Apple STAYED under that thing.......when I got Lil Bit she seemed to like getting under it with Apple......and still loves it! Be sure to get a really cheap heating pad that does not have an "automatic 2 hour off" safety feature...Apple hated that!!!!!
Good luck......and glad you have someone who can be with him during the day...I am fortunate to have a nursing job where I can come and go at home if needed.....and wild puppy kisses from Apple and Lil Bit to Toby!!!!!(XXXX) |
