I think it takes a long time for a dog to be trained to let YOU know when he has to go out. Our older dog is on a schedule basically. He goes out first thing in A.M. , lunch time, after dinner then one last time before bed. If anytime in between that he needs to go out he will sit at the door and whine. To me this is being fully trained. He has communicated to us he needs to go out, not us taking him out on schedule. That took a long time to accomplish however, probably 1 1/2 years. Any dog can be trained to pee when you tell them to and when you set a schedule for them. I guess true training is when they communicate to you they have to go out. Sounds like you dog needs more direction in her potty duties. Instead of putting her in the laundry room and shutting the door then expecting her to know what to do you need to get involved. Put her on the potty pad..tell her to "go potty" or whatever command for potty you have. She will try to get off the pad probably. Put her back on and don't let her off until she goes. Do this over and over and soon enough she will understand what it is you want her to do on the pad. Make sure to give little treats when she does go on the pad. Good Luck! |
