I also think that it's because he gets excited and probably upset when you leave him. It's just the state of mind he is in for those few moments.

Perhaps - you need to put him someplace where his "peeing won't hurt anything" and leave him for a few minutes every once in a while. I would think that he'll learn you'll be right back and not get so excited and upset after a while.

I had a huge lab that would go to the bathroom in the car everytime I took him anyplace. This was always because he got so excited -- not fun! Then finally - after a million car rides - he finally got over this terrible habit. It certainly was never because he was upset with me or anything like that.
