I agree. I honestly think the whole "it's the owners fault" is kind of a generic excuse. Yes, some owners just get pitt bulls so they can look tough, and they make the dog aggressive to be cool. But that isn't always the case. The pitt bull that attacked my pug was a family dog, they didn't do anything mean to it. It even came over to my house and it used to play with the kids and my dogs. Then one weekend when it was over it just snapped for no reason. IMO some dogs are just mentally to wired attack. I agree that it is in their blood to fight and because they have the capability (those jaws) and it usually ends up ugly. It is not the same thing as a yorkie nipping an adult. IMO some dogs were bred to be human attackers like our yorkies were bred to be rodent attackers. I would never own one like I would never own a poisonous snake: the possibility of me not being able to control the animal is still there.
I think something does need to be done, but not possibility taking all of the pitt bulls away. Making owners register dogs and pay fees for breeding them is a good idea. Forcing them to get vet care, shots, and wait until they are 8 weeks would be too. Most of the dogs here I see given away for free or put down in shelters are pitt bulls. So they are ALREADY dying. IMO It is much easier for a pitt bull to get into the hands of an irresponsible owner than any other dog. Maybe that is another reason why they have such a bad rep. If some type of law was made for ALL dogs to where they were only bred by responsible people, there wouldn't be so many poorly bred dogs, especially pitt bulls resulting in less altercations. I truly believe a lot of back yard breeders would stop breeding if they had to pay fees and get vet care for their pups.
