For me it depends on how long I will be visiting and who I am visiting. A few days ago I was talking to my older sister on the phone. She is a busy gal, and has never really owned a pet, so her and I are different when it comes to where pets stand in our lives. She lives at the opposite end of the country, we were talking about a visit I am planning for this summer. I told her that I am planning on bringing my baby, as well as my 8 and 12 year old sons.....she said to me "well we have a problem"....I was thinking "oh ya here we go"...then she went on to say, "in my apartment building they don't allow......KIDS!.." LOL, I thought she was going to say dogs, but she was teasing me about the kids....she knows how much my dogs mean to me, and she likes to tease me about it, but deep down she understands. If she had said that my babe wasn't allowed, I would have cancelled the trip, mostly because that it was to long for him to be without us, he is still too young.
If I am going to a friends for coffee, Bailey stays home, for 2reasons, he is not housebroken completely, and I am not spending the whole visit following him around the house worrying, It is good for him to have short periods alone, without us (I am a stay at home mom, so he rarely is left alone).
I think everyone has a right to say who can and can not be welcome in their home, I take every occassion and visit one at a time, and judge from there whether I think it is something to push or just let it go.
