We are on frontline with all my dogs(3 larger and then Reagan our yorkie) we've been happy with it I guess. I agree with everyone that they die once they bite it doesn't repel them, found a dead tick on reagan last night as a matter of fact. I don't have any experience with Advantix so I can't say anything about it though sorry.
Isn't there something that you can put in your yard that will kill ticks. I'm pretty sure some of the bug killer stuff kills ticks. You wouldn't want your dog back there for a period of time after you've put it down though. I'm not positive but its something worth looking into. I'm sure you could find something like that at a Home Depot/Lowes or other lawn and garden store maybe even Wal-mart. The stuff we got(we didn't get it for ticks but I'm pretty sure it had ticks on the list of things it killed) was a powder or granuale(sp?) type stuff that came in a bag.
