How scary! I'm glad you're all ok. I do hope you'll pursue confirmation the dog had a rabies shot. Our dd was brushed by a bat last fall & even though the chances of a bite were minimal, multiple drs recommended her getting the rabies series bc it's too late once symptoms appear. It's no picnic but the alternative was worse (can be fatal). We learned that rabid bats had become such a problem in our area that even our health insurance company was aware of it! Thankfully, they waived some of the ER deductibles as a result. Anyway, get a lawyer if you have to, but make them show proof if the bite broke the skin. Around here, vets must give a special id tag & keep the info on file so it can be checked, otherwise the animal is quarantined. From what you've described, I wouldn't just take that neighbor's word for it...
