I do not think the weight would be a problem for most Yorkies..therea re 10 pound cats and more...I would be concerned about them jumping from the shelf onto the floor if the window was higher then chair level..

I had a girl who lived in NC and she would sit in the kitchen sink and watch out the window until her mom came home..when she bought another Yorkie, he did the same thing..learned it from my girl. (I did not teach her to act that way..LOL)
