SOMEONE has got to stop kids from tormenting other kids at school. Name calling does hurt and it does affect other kids. In her not she wrote "I was tired of hurting and being called fat. I couldn't take it anymore"..think of that next time you hear your child calling some other child a name. I had to pull my oldest son because of kids tormenting..he's 6'5 and could of knocked the head off of any kid but i'd raised him to be nice..so no matter how often kids teased him..he was still nice..but late at night i'd hear him cying soflty in his room. So i pulled him and home schooled him. I have a daugther that has to see a counseler because kids tease her because she is a tomboy and dresses like one..she didn't "fit in" with the other girls..and the names they called her wern't what you may think is bad but it was enough to drop her self esteem..she went from being reaally confident to thinking she was ugly..and i've shown pics she and my son are gorgeous..but look what mean kids can do to one child..Parents I beg you to do what you can to stop your children from teasing. I know if it was mine they would think twice of doing it again. I dont' condone it or just say "oh well kids just tease" |
You do have a point (even though a month is too harsh a punishment). I used to make fun of my younger sister all the time. Then, when I was in my young teen years I saw this episode of Oprah, and how this girl (or guy don't remember) killed him/herself because people were incessantly making fun of them. You know what? I stopped making fun of my sister immediately. Have never done it since. But, unfortunately all students don't react to visuals like I do. We have a big assembly every year in our middle school. It's really great! They set up movie screens in the gym, turn off the lights, and show a "movie." It's real kids talking about topics such as making fun/suicide, etc. The kids are all "oooing" and "ahhhing" for about a day. Then they get over it. Sad, but true.
