My intention was to keep my new puppy gated off in the kitchen at night, but from the first night I got her she was in my bed. She cried so loudly that I had to stick her in my bed and she's been there ever since. I have gotten the steps so she can climb up and down safely and since she is free fed and uses her pads or at least the tiled floor she is pretty self sufficient.
She spends a lot of time sleeping in her little dog house under the computer table but after I go to bed, she comes into my room. Sometimes I don't even realize it until I wake up in the morning and there she is. What ever you want your arrangement to be you have to be consistent for it to work. Good luck.
