Okay - It's none of the above....... I know exactly what you are talking about.

My Bichon does this every once in a while (two or three times a year - not often).

His stool - is white, dry, and crumbly. It doesn't look like fresh stool at all. It is more like stool that has been laying out in the sun for several days and has dried out and turned white.

I have never had a clue what has causes this. But, with him, it has always lasted only one day (I think) - and than his stool is normal again. He has never been sick with this, and since he has been doing it several times a year (for only a day or so) for years without any health problems - I've never done anything about it.

I can find out almost nothing about this. A couple articles led me to believe that it is a symptom of constipation -- but my dog got over this so quickly that there was no need to alter his diet. I think more fiber and fluids help with constipitation.

I also saw this information in an ad for a BARF diet. They said, it is common to see white crumbly stools from a raw fed dog --- if the dog is constipated to increase fiber -- and real pumpkin will also help reduce constipation.
---------------------------------------------------------

The end result is that I would watch your dog like I did mine - and if this continues - take him to a vet. But - if like mine. it is completely gone and he is back to normal stools in a day - just keep an eye on him (and his stools).

I think this is something you don't need to worry too much about. But do keep an eye on your dog's stools for a while. And go to the vet - if it continues.

Good luck! Carol Jean
