You're right - most vets do have regular office hours - and often, you'll need to take your pup to the ER vet if something happens in the middle of the night, etc. But, do find out if your vet(s) is on call for phone calls 24/7. Often they can help over the phone - and, this may also be a time when they just might run into the office for you.

And - also often how much coverage a vet office can give depends on how many vets are working at that office. They are more apt to rotate night call, etc., if they have several vets to share this coverage.

Ask around and see which vets other people use and how happy they are with the care they get.
