Both my dogs have to "sit" and stay that way to get a treat. Their little butts have to be on the floor before they get their treat. Also, to keep them from thinking about jumping up to get their treat, I give it to them at a very low level - almost even with or lower than their mouth. Now, everytime they see a treat in my hand - they just sit down without my even telling them to.
So - "sit" and "stay" are commands they know very well. They don't know much else!! They don't have a clue what the word "come" means - unless it's to their benefit.
