His name is Diesel. 5 months, 5 pounds. He goes everywhere with me (I work with a very modern company) and loves it. However, we are having trouble with potty training.

I adopted him from a rescue (they got him from a puppy mill, reportedly), and when I picked him up, he was in an outdoor run with straw flooring/bedding. He doesnt seem to understand that outside is meant for potty breaks; when we go outside, he gets so caught up in the outdoors that he doesnt remember to potty, no matter how long we stay outside. It seems as though his need to potty hits him all of a sudden, and he has no control. I bought puppy pads, as it has been rainy and cold, but he doesnt understand that either. I always show him where to go, and if he pees or poops on the floor, I take him to the pad, but no progress.

Any advice? Im very experienced with bigger breeds (my family breed rottweilers) but new to the toy breeds and their special needs.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
