I purchased a Yorkie puppy from Pampered Pups (Jason McDowell) in Edinburg PA. This was about 11 years ago. I didn’t realize it at the time but I’m almost positive they are a puppy mill. When I went to see the dogs, the man asked if I wanted a boy or girl. He then brought out 4 boy Yorkie puppies. He never let me see the parents but I bought a dog anyway. He gave the dog a shot before we left and on the way home, the puppy vomited. He had several issues with diarrhea the first couple months but was treated by my vet. Luckily, he is healthy now although does have severe diarrhea episodes every 3-4 months. He needs treated with antibiotics as they vet calls it Clostridium. Basically, he doesn’t have enough good bacteria in his gut to fight off the bad. I’ve been thinking about getting another dog so I decided to check their website again. I noticed there’s several complaints about other people’s puppies being sick and some not making it. The website name has also been changed. It was pampered pups and now it’s Northeast Pups. The website doesn’t even have their actual photos. He used someone else’s faces. The whole process was shady and I’m certain these puppies are coming from a puppy mill. I’m one of the lucky ones, my dog is healthy for the most part and although I’ve spent thousands on vet bills, I’m so happy I have him.
Humane Society’s response:
We have had numerous complaints about Jason McDowell and we will add your complaint to our records. He has used a few different business names over the years and acts as a middleman broker, meaning he buys and resell puppies from other breeders. It’s important to know that responsible breeders do not sell their puppies through third parties like this. I am glad to hear that your dog made a full recovery and is doing well! |
Thank you for sharing your experience. Jason McDowell is a broker NOT a breeder. He buys litters of puppy's from puppy mills. I am happy to know your puppy is one of the lucky ones with no severe health issues. Your story can spare hundreds of people to avoid heartbreak. If you are looking to by a puppy check out
