Almost every kind of dental chew I’ve seen says they’re not appropriate for pups under a year or under five pounds. Jax just turned one year on September 12th, and he weighs around five pounds if I time it right (when he just ate and when he hasn’t peed or pooped for a while), so I’ve purchased a few kinds.

He really likes Dentalife chews, but they scare me a little. Out of the bag, they’re the consistency of a dry sponge. While he’s enjoying them, though, little pieces come off that are super sticky and gummy. I’m afraid he’s going to choke, and the heimlich won’t dislodge something that sticky from his throat. The pieces are even difficult to get out of his hair.

I have a few other kinds to try, but they seem similar in consistency.
I have found at least the ones that I bought that the dental ones all seem to be a bit sticky like that. When Callie was younger I used to give her the larger size milk bones and she loved those. Maybe like the medium size would be like a chew for him?
