She doesn’t want to go outside or run or play, she’s sleeps under the couch most the day and sometimes it’s so quiet I feel like we have zero dogs. I’m thinking we need to go baby puppy so we can be the ones raising it but I dunno, finding a puppy is hard. So at the moment we are just trying to spoil Molli and teach Artie how to be a good dog owner. |
You poor things, this time is so hard to bear, and the missing its worst. Whole families suffer but thankfully you have each other for support, little Molli's love.
When faced with a depressed, withdrawn dog, here's what worked for me: Happily engage her into some fun obedience training to get her involved in learning new skills for the pride and glow of the praise, immediate rewards, feelings of confidence from working she'll get. An enthusiastic dog handler/custodian involved with their dog can get them going again as long as they are well, uninjured and older dogs can use the gentle movements, the renewed activity, teamwork w/mom. Training helps even introverted dogs learn to feel good again, accomplished, proud they please you and you enjoy working with them for your goals. Dogs love to work.
