When I first had Boomer and Thumper I was told they were crate trained and pee pad trained. Well for the first month I came home from work and they peed in their crate. After getting tired of cleaning up the mess I decided gating them with a specific area of pee pads was better less mess to clean up.

Come 5 years later with having to crate Thumper 24/7 for the past few weeks he has had a few accidents in the crate even though I have him out 4=6 times a day for a quick potty break. What I learned is that I double layer the pee pads so just the top one needs to be disposed up and much easier clean up. Also when he tried to get out he will tip over his water bowl so that also makes a mess.

I am not a fan of the puppy apartment either. Yes at times there will be a mess in a crate but I try to avoid it as much as possible.

I have also seen the add for the puppy apartment throughout the years and thought at first great idea but my dogs would not adhere to it knowing them.
