Well I got some bells at petsmart and i tied them to a piece of yarn. Long enough for his nose to be able to touch it. I tied it to the handle on the door that we take him outside. The first week he was here everytime I took him outside (which was alot) we walked to the door I took his paw and hit the bells and said outside. Then he went outside and I said "go potty" when he went potty lots of praise. I spent one day taking his paw hitting bell ...when he hit the bell good boy...lots of praise. When he went and hit the bell himself i gave him lots and lots of praise but immediately say outside and open the door. Then straight to do his business and back in the house. He has only been with us about 3 weeks but he is consistantly hitting the bell to go out. Now the tricky part is now that he also know that the bell mean the door opens and i can go mess around outside. So he is ringing the bell alot...but you have to be consistant and never scold for ringing the bell. Now when he rings the bell we go out and potty straight back into the house no playing. It is really easy the hard part that we are in is teaching him the bell means potty not go outside and play. You can also search this there is alot of info out there on how to do it. |
